About Bizzarica

The Project: Imaginary Awareness Campaigns for Imaginary Creatures and Institutions

Bizzarica is a fun, tongue-in-cheek project. Here, we reimagine traditional fundraising and awareness campaigns by incorporating monsters and otherworldly creatures for a bizarre, absurd twist. It’s a space for me to channel my nerd energy and years of experience in science and public communications into my natural interest in absurdity and myth-making.

Bizzarica is a collection of apparel and gear designed for people who love sci-fi, enjoy a good joke, and don’t take life too seriously.

A Life Between Biology and Storytelling

Hi, I’m Artem Abdukakharov. I grew up in a family of scientists in Tashkent and spent eight years in academia studying biological sciences across Uzbekistan, Germany, Canada, and the USA. I even taught entomology (the study of insects) at the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada). While my career eventually moved into Public Relations, I never lost my "nerd" roots.

A Fellow Nerd & Citizen Scientist

Bizzarica is a passion project, but my love for documenting life is very real. Though I have been away from professional science for many years, I still contribute to the global research community as a volunteer:

  • Wikipedia Editor: I’ve written multiple articles on the rare species and biodiversity of Central Asia on English Wikipedia.
  • iNaturalist Contributor: I’ve documented over 900 species and 1,400 observations across the globe—from Arctic Russia and the Canadian Rockies to the jungles of Southeast Asia.
  • Red Data Book Contributor: My field observations were included in the 3rd edition of the Red Data Book of Moscow.

The Digital Nomad Life

Today, I mostly live as a digital nomad, traveling through Southeast Asia with my family. This "anchors-off" lifestyle led me to launch Bizzarica in 2024. I believe that the best things in life should be lightweight, digital, and ready to move across borders—or galaxies.
